  • Churches in Lynden sheltered North Whatcom residents displaced by floods on Dec. 11, with Sonlight Church providing overnight refuge for 52 evacuees as local community members offered support.  Lynden Tribune

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Skagit River reached a record 41 ft near Concrete on Thursday and is expected to crest at 39 ft near Mount Vernon at 10 a.m. today under a flash flood watch while over 200 National Guard members help with flood protection efforts.  KAFE

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Minimal flooding is reported in Bellingham today as Hannegan Road is closed due to a culvert failure with detours set up. City Council on Dec. 8 approved new housing measures; libraries close Sundays from Dec. 14 and Whatcom Museum hosts holiday events through Jan. 4.  City of Bellingham

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Bellingham hosts festive holiday events this weekend—join the Jingle Bell Run at Options High School on Saturday at 8 a.m., ride in the Lighted Bike Parade from 4:45 to 6:30 p.m., and catch live shows at Wild Buffalo and Shakedown as Blossom Farm offers indoor animal lights Friday to Sunday.  KAFE

SPORTS NEWS

  • Western Washington University senior forward Morgan Manalili was named First Team All-American after scoring 17 goals during a record-setting season — she also earned GNAC Player of the Year and West Region Player of the Year honors.  KISM
