- ➤ By 11 a.m. on Dec. 15, Lynden’s Readers Care Fund had received 47 donations totaling $13,355. The contributions supported the community/senior center, Project Hope Food Bank, Nooksack Valley Food Bank, and Ferndale Food Bank, with thank-you letters noting tax deductions in partnership with the Mount Baker Rotary Foundation. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Whatcom County offers flood recovery help for residents whose properties were damaged last week. Residents should complete an assessment for state or federal funds, drop debris off at sites on Swanson Road near Sumas and in Ferndale, or call 360-788-5303 for shelter needs + volunteer with recovery groups. - ➤ Residents in Sumas have returned following flood evacuations as the city's sewer system was restored and the Cherry Street bridge reopened, although the border crossing and Hovel Road remain closed. Residents are advised to inspect for water leaks — pipes may be damaged — and to check the BBB before hiring contractors. KISM
