COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City updates include festivities at Whatcom Museum on Dec. 18 and a resolution walk and dip on Jan. 1 — city services pause over the holidays and road closures remain on Woburn and Hannegan after flooding damaged culverts. City Council approved a 20-year growth plan to boost housing and jobs.  City of Bellingham
  • A new shelter is open at the Sulwhanon Community Building in Everson for residents displaced by last week’s flooding. Run by the American Red Cross and hosted by the Nooksack Indian Tribe, it will not accept animals indoors.  1170 KPUG
  • A local aid group calls on high school students to help recover flooded areas in Everson and Sumas this week + volunteer hours count toward school or graduation requirements with check-ins at Station 81 Fire Hall and Sumas Advent Christian Church from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  KAFE

  • Alaska Airlines will begin round-trip flights from Bellingham to Portland on March 19, 2026 — with a non-stop, hour-long flight leaving at 8:15 a.m. and returning at 9:45 p.m. — after the Port of Bellingham teased the new service on social media today.  KAFE

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • This weekend in Bellingham, residents can enjoy Fairhaven Winterfest wrapping up Saturday, Dec. 20 with carriage rides and a dog parade; nearby, the Holiday Makers Market, Santa Skate at the Sportsplex, a Living Ornament Make and Take at Garden Spot, and Christmas Karaoke on Dec. 25 offer festive fun.  KAFE

  • The Bellingham girls basketball team hosts Anacortes today in a high-school game following strong wins by nearby schools. The matchup is part of a busy evening as local teams aim to build momentum in regional contests.  My Bellingham Now
  • Local high school basketball games saw Lynden Christian boys win a 91-90 overtime thriller and LC girls secure a 70-21 victory last night. Tonight, Bellingham girls will host Anacortes in a contest that could boost their local standing.  KISM
