- ➤ New Year’s Eve fireworks are allowed in unincorporated Whatcom County from 6 p.m. until 1 a.m., but fireworks remain illegal in Bellingham. The Columbia Valley area is under a Stage 1 air quality burn ban — select pyrotechnics are limited to tribal territories. KAFE
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Whatcom County provided flood recovery equipment including dehumidifiers, fans and pumps to help residents dry buildings and reduce mold risks, and a temporary equipment lending site opened in Sumas on Dec. 30 after the Stremler debris site closed. Lynden Tribune
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ Stevens Pass Ski Area opened for winter on Dec. 29. Washouts closed eastbound access, leaving a 20-mile Highway 2 segment open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. & Gov. Ferguson expects limited east access to resume soon; Mount Baker’s Canyon run stays open under dry weather until New Year’s Day. KAFE
