Good morning, Bellingham. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 13th of August.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard, Canadian Coast Guard and a local good Samaritan rescued one fisherman from a 25-foot skiff that began taking on water near Point Roberts in 2-foot waves and 15-knot winds—however, the other fisherman died after receiving help.  My Bellingham Now

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Carnal, an award-winning restaurant in downtown Bellingham, is up for sale as the listing shows a Michelin-level kitchen and two fire elements in a 3,500 sq ft space—new owners will obtain the equipment and space without the restaurant’s name.  My Bellingham Now
  • Boundary Bay Brewery will close its Railroad Avenue location in September after 30 years in business and will partner with Woodinville’s Black Raven Brewery to brew its Scotch Ale, Cedar Dust IPA, and Northwest Original IPA — seasonal batches of other recipes will also be produced. Ferndale-based Walton Beverage will continue to distribute the cans, and a block party is planned for September 20th to thank loyal customers.  My Bellingham Now

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Washington Department of Wildlife detected invasive European green crabs near Port Gamble and Port Ludlow and confirmed a green crab molt in False Bay on San Juan Island in June. The crabs have spread in coastal bays since the 1980s and may harm eelgrass and other native species — the department continues to track the situation.  My Bellingham Now
  • Cleanup crews continue work on Padden Creek after over 600 gallons of diesel spilled last week and wildlife responders recovered the carcasses of three coho salmon and one crayfish on Sunday. Local agencies will remove contaminated soil and enforce a stop work order until the new pump is operational.  My Bellingham Now
